Know the process for applying for a Visa for India.




All  the visitors required to have a visa for India to enter in the country. The categories are travel Visa, X (entry Visa, Business Visa, Employment Visa, Student Visa, Conference Visa, Research Visa, Medical Visa and Transit Visa. India has a limited Visa on Arrival facility for tourists who are citizens of 11 counties. Otherwise, your Indian visa must be obtained before arriving in India.


For applying an India Visa you need to apply through various forms available in Indian Embassy in all respective countries. Few lists of address for visa application authorities are available here

If you are applying for visiting India for business purpose, you need to ask your Indian counterpart/associate/dealer for invitation letter. this will ease the process and reduce chance of denial of application. A simple format for invitation letter for India visit is available. All you need to do is to change the Embassy address of Application County as per the list available or you may Google it for the location of Indian Embassy in your country. You also need to mention the duration for visas (3/6/12 months or 2/5/10 years in some countries, single/multiple entry) according to your requirement. And don't forget to enter details and cross check in a printed version to avoid mistakes.

Tourist Visas are generally allotted for six months. You are not allowed to visit certain places of India untill you get a special permission. If you a resident of USA then you might obtain 10 years long term multiple entry visa. A few countries like France, Germany, South Korea, Brazil, Spain, Switzerland, etc may obtain 5 years long term multiple visas. In any case you are not allowed to stay more than 6 months for the period.

If your visa application is refused

If your application for the visa is being refused by the granting authority, it will send you a copy of the decision with the explanation. You may apply for review of this decision in writing. You may also authorise a person to object to the decision on your behalf or to represent you in any hearing relating to your application. This person must have authorisation letter duly signed by you.
